How to link an Azure repository using a personal access token

As a depositor you have the option to link your repository using a personal access token. To begin, you have to be signed in with your depositor account and create a new repository. Choose a display name that will be used in our software and leave the SSH URL field blank. Your beneficiaries will be able to see this. The display name does not have to match the title of your dev.azure.com repository. Click on ‘Use a PAT instead’.

Clone your repository using HTTPS

Next, you can add your repository’s URL. Navigate to your repository on dev.azure.com and click the ‘Clone’ button, and copy the HTTPS clone URL.

Create your Personal Access Token

Navigate to your user settings, then ‘Personal access tokens’ and select ‘New token’. Choose a descriptive name for your token, like 42 escrow backup. To create a read-only copy, make sure to only select ‘Read’. Click ‘Create’, copy your personal access token before closing the dialog box. Now you can head back to 42escrow and use the ‘Save and check Repo’ button to finish the setup and see if everything is working.

To begin, you have to be signed in with your depositor account and create a new escrow repository. Choose a display name that will be used in our software and enter the SSH URL of your repository. Your Beneficiaries will be able to see these. Your display name does not have to match the name of your GitLab repository.

Generate an SSH Key

Once you have completed step one you can generate an SSH key and add the generated key to your gitlab.com user settings. Click the downwards arrow next to your profile picture in the upper right corner and select ‘Edit profile’. Find and click ‘SSH keys’ in the left-hand menu. Copy-paste your SSH key generated by 42escrow in the text box, give it a descriptive title (for example ‘42escrow backup’) and add the expiry date. Confirm using the ‘Add SSH key’ button.

Now you can head back to 42escrow and use the ‘Check repo’ button to see if everything is working.

Open your repository on github.com and head to the settings for the repository and click Deploy Keys in the menu on the the left side. Use the Add deploy key Button and paste the key into the textfield. Confirm using the save button.
